Baptism
The sacrament of Baptism is administered at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church on a date set by the parents and the Pastor. Baptismal preparation in the form of attending a seminar is required for the parents and godparents. Parents are asked to call the rectory to register. The reception of one's First Holy Communion is normally celebrated when a child has reached the age of reason, usually the second grade. According to the Archdiocesan policy, "children must be enrolled in and attending religious education classes in first and second grade or for one full year prior to the year they prepare for First Eucharist." The Sacrament of Confirmation is administered in the 11th grade at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church. Confirmation candidates must be enrolled in the Confirmation Preparation Program and attend religious education classes. The preparation period is two and a half years. High school students attending public and private non-sectarian schools must be registered in religious education classes. High school students attending Catholic schools must be registered in the Confirmation process at Sacred Heart of Jesus School of Religion. Reconciliation (Confession) is on Saturdays from 3:45 P.M. until 4:15 P.M., 20 minutes before weekday Masses (except Thursdays) or anytime by appointment (985-764-6503). Communal reconciliation services with individual confession are scheduled during the Advent and Lenten seasons.
The Anointing of the Sick is administered on an as-needed basis. Persons undergoing major surgery or advanced in years who would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please contact the church office.
A couple desiring to be married is expected to contact the priest/deacon at least six (6) months prior to the proposed date of their wedding. This interval allows time to prepare well for such a sacred commitment. (Handbook of Policies, Archdiocese of New Orleans.) All couples desiring to be married at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church must contact the pastor for an appointment to begin the marriage preparation process.
